However, what I’m not crazy about, as Anouk grows more and more powerful, is her desire to continue to be the nice little dust bunny everyone around her knew. She controlled the plot, as opposed to the plot controlling her, which is exactly what I want in my main characters. From the get-go, she was more driven and resourceful than she was in Grim Lovelies, which was amazing. So let’s start things off with talking about our heroine, Anouk, who really grew as a character in this book. What had power ever brought anyone but ruin? She couldn’t help but feel that even though she was a princess and a witch now, they would still be bowing to a maid. Instead, let’s just immediately put the spoiler warning in place, and get into some reviewing. I actually have a full crackpot theories from back when this book came out, and since this is the second book I’m going to dispense with the plot synopsis. So today, we’re going to be talking about Midnight Beauties by Megan Shepherd, the second book in the Grim Lovelies duology. This is mostly because I’ve been doing a lot of book series ranked, which are lots of fun, don’t get me wrong, but I think it’s time to return to my roots with a proper review. Reader, it has been a hot minute since I posted a book review.
